MgtA riboswitch
MgtA riboswitch
The mgtA riboswitch is regulated by the concentration of magnesium in the cell. It provides a post-transcriptional control of gene expression in E. coli responding to the concentration of magnesium in the cell.
With increasing concentrations of magnesium, the magnesium riboswitch is repressed. Cromie and Grosman, 2009 show that the mgtA promoter (BBa_K902009) and the riboswitch are repressed at 10mM MgCl2. However, it is important to remember that the system requires the signal transduction proteins PhoP(BBa_K902010) and PhoQ(BBa_K902011) are necessary to tightly control the system.
